Niwot Criterium

Cory did her first mass start race today, the Niwot Crit. Niwot is an old sleepy town 20 min north east of Boulder. The Niwot Crit is known as one of the most techincal crits around with 5 90 deg corners and 2 greater than 90 deg corners. All the corners make for a tough race and just because of all the corners but because everyone slows down for the corners and then sprints through the corner which make for a tough day on the legs.

Cory had an awesome 1st race. She got the hole shot off the start and lead the 1st 2 or 2.5 laps until the other teams got organized. It was pretty fun to see her out in front of everybody. As the race went on the speed of the pack got faster and faster and Cory had a hard time sticking with them, but she did a great job working with her teammates and other riders to keep a high pace and try to catch the pack. Cory did a great job today--for someone not to get lapped or pulled on their 1st crit is huge. A lot of people spend their 1st season of crit race getting lapped by the pack. I think there are going to be a lot of great race weekends in our future.

Below are some pictures and video from today race.

I did not race today because my knee is hurting a little bit and I did not want to make it worst before our big Triple Bypass ride next weekend. It was very very hard not to race today because the weather was perfect and the course looked really fun, but I think I will be glad that I didn't next weekend.

Happy Trails
